IIT / BCT had a great day session with a mix of students from The Hutchins School and St Michael’s Collegiate School who approached us to find out what blind and low vision cricket is all about.
B&LV cricket is a highly inclusive sport – accessible to all abilities, genders, and ages. You can even play as a fully-sighted person!
To create a ‘level playing field’ students wore simulation glasses that reduced their eyesight to an equivalent level of most B&LV competition players. This gave them a unique opportunity to experience the challenges and the skills required to play the game.
Four groups played some modified games and all enjoyed the chance to be coached by BCT Tigers captain David Hughes and his Tigers national championships teammate Dylan Gangell.
It was a fantastic opportunity to engage and educate everyone on the exciting B&LV game style, and also make valuable connections in the education sector that will help increase awareness and participation in the sport.
Thanks to Hutchins’ teacher Travis Little for organising the session.
If your school or community group would like to experience the skills and fun of blind and low-vision cricket (even if you are fully sighted), just drop us a message through the website.

There’s also a group shot of everyone who attended the session at the end with smiles on their faces and cheering at the camera.
